My favorite thing to do at big zoos nationwide, is to go to the Budgie Encounter, or whatever they call it. I just love budgies! They are so cute and smart, they're fun to perch on your finger, and they come in many beautiful colors. (above) This is an interesting budgie that is green, yellow, and blue. It is currently feasting on dropped millet. (a type of grain that budgies like to eat) This is me holding a cockatiel and feeding it millet. Cockatiels are in the parakeet family along with budgies. They are grey, yellow, and have red 'cheeks'. Here is a pied budgie, (pied is his color and pattern type) so busy eating his yummy treat that you can only see his back and his tail! If the camera were facing the other direction, you would notice that his head is a light airy blue with a touch of yellow below his beak and he has black bars on his forehead indicating his age. (Completely white head for an old budgie, bars will fade away when the birds get older.
